A small but striking waterbird, the hooded merganser is versatile in its abilities, flying up to 50 mph through the air, or diving underwater in pursuit of prey for up to 2 minutes.
As a visual metaphor, they are intriguing in their appearance to effortlessly glide atop the water, belying the complexities found just underneath.
This is especially true when considering their hunting habits, as they wait until returning to the surface after a long and successful hunt to swallow their catch.
